North Carolina Expands Providers Subject to Proof of Licensure Requirements

On April 14, North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue signed S.B. 505, which requires that podiatrists, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, psychologists, acupuncturists, and certified professional midwives wear identification with photo and licensing information when meeting with patients.

Chiropractors, dentists, practitioners of medicine and surgery, optometrists, and osteopathic physicians are already required to comply with the requirement under existing law. The purpose of the requirement is to ensure that the public can easily identify the qualifications of the providers they visit.
